Class 10 board exams and ADHD: a calm strategy for the big year

How to approach the board year with chunks, routine and support, without the panic spiral.

The Class 10 board year carries a lot of weight in the minds of Indian families. For students with ADHD, the combination of a large syllabus, high pressure and fixed deadlines can feel overwhelming. A steady, structured approach works better than panic.

Start with the big picture

Collect the syllabus and the exam schedule from your school or board website. Note which topics carry more marks and which you find hardest. This turns a vague fear into a list.

Daily rhythm over heroic weekends

Short, regular sessions beat marathon days. Aim for something like:

  • 2 to 3 short sprints on school days.
  • A longer block on weekends, with breaks.
  • One subject per sprint, to limit switching.

Mix learning methods

  • Active recall with flashcards and quizzes.
  • Past papers and sample papers timed, but only once the topic is learned.
  • Short notes in your own words for last-minute review.
  • A mistake notebook where you note each error and why it happened.

Handle the hardest subjects first in the day

Do tricky subjects, usually maths and science for many students, when you are freshest. Save revision tasks for tired hours.

Take care of the basics

  • Sleep is part of revision, not a luxury.
  • Meals, water and movement keep attention steady.
  • Breaks and fun prevent burnout. Plan them.

Talk about stress

Board pressure affects every family. Parents can help by:

  • Reducing comparisons with cousins and neighbours.
  • Asking "how can I help?" instead of "how many hours did you do?"
  • Watching for signs of overwhelming anxiety or low mood and seeking professional help when needed.

Check on supports

Ask the school about exam provisions available for students with a documented diagnosis, such as extra time or other adjustments. Rules change and differ by board and situation, so confirm the current ones directly with the school and the board well before the exam.

ZEKO covers Class 10 content with chapter quizzes, flashcards and mock exams, along with an exam plan. It supports study habits and does not replace your school or teachers.
